Measure the floor you have (in inches: feet x 12), the ceiling height, and pick how many people and which kind of sauna. The tool turns each cabin both ways, adds the gaps the makers recommend, and lists every sauna that fits, cheapest first, with the inches left over. For a yard, set the ceiling to 0 and choose "outdoor".
The result appears here.
How the check works
- Floor: outside width + 2 side gaps and outside depth + 2 side gaps must fit your floor, one way or turned 90°.
- Ceiling: outside height + the gap above must stay under your ceiling (indoors only).
- Gaps: 4 in on the sides (Sun Home: "4 inches of wall clearance"; Sunlighten: "Recommend 4" between sauna and walls"), 12 in above (Sun Home: "12 inches above the cabin"; Sunlighten recommends 6). Set your own if your maker's manual says otherwise.
- Dimensions: outside width x depth x height as printed on the product page or spec sheet, read on November 7, 2026. When one page sells several sizes, it does not tell us which size the lowest price buys, so we leave that model out of the check (7 Almost Heaven models) rather than guess.
What it cannot check: the door and stairs on the way in, the heater's own safety distances inside a traditional sauna (fixed by the cabin maker), the swing of the sauna door, and for outdoor saunas the base, the slope and your local setback rules.

Frequently asked questions
How much space do you need around a sauna?
The two makers that print it ask for 4 inches between the cabin and the walls; above it, Sun Home asks for 12 inches and Sunlighten for 6. Sun Home also says to plan the outlet on the side where the cord exits. Outdoor saunas need a level base and room to reach the door and the heater: check the maker's site plan.
What ceiling height do I need for an indoor sauna?
The cabin's outside height plus the gap above it. Indoor cabins in our check stand 63 to 82.7 inches tall outside; the tallest are Sun Home's Nova traditional cabins. With Sun Home's 12-inch gap, an 8-foot (96-inch) ceiling clears every indoor model we read [calc]; a 7-foot (84-inch) basement ceiling does not clear the tallest ones.
Will a sauna fit through my door?
Check before you order. Cabin kits ship as wall panels as wide as the cabin; Sunlighten's spec sheets tell you to "measure any doorway or hallway prior to purchase" and list each panel's size. Barrels and outdoor cabins are delivered on a pallet or in a crate and assembled where they stand.
